The original version of Galaxies Like Grains of Sand was first published by Signet in 1960 with earlier versions of the stories and connecting material, and lacking Blighted Profile.

Earlier versions of eight of the above stories were collected in The Canopy of Time (Faber and Faber, 1959), lacking the connecting material and Out of Reach.
