Notes
2001: A Space Odyssey, a novel based on a screenplay by Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke.

The first part of the A Space Odyssey series.

This reissued edition includes a new foreword by Clarke along with the short stories The Sentinel and Encounter in the Dawn.

The Sentinel was used as a starting point for 2001: A Space Odyssey, where it was modified and fused with other ideas including another short story, Encounter in the Dawn. Also published as Sentinel of Eternity.

ACC identified Encounter in the Dawn as a significant influence on his thinking during the early stages of writing 2001: A Space Odyssey. Also published as Expedition to Earth and Encounter at Dawn.

Publisher’s Blurb – Lower Cover
ON THE MOON AN ENIGMA IS UNCOVERED. SO GREAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE DISCOVERY THAT, FOR THE FIRST TIME, MEN ARE SENT OUT DEEP INTO THE SOLAR SYSTEM.

BUT BEFORE THEY CAN REACH THEIR DESTINATION, THINGS BEGIN TO GO WRONG. HORRIBLY WRONG . . .

Written when landing on the moon was still a dream, made into one of the most influential films of our century, brilliant, compulsive, prophetic, 2001: A Space Odyssey tackles the enduring theme of man’s place in the Universe.

Now reissued with a new introduction by the author which tells the story of how 2001 took shape, plus two earlier short stories 'The Sentinel' and 'Encounter in the Dawn' from which this extraordinary novel was to grow.
